|| “Who would have thought I would end up like this?’
Is the opening line to one of the many powerful scenes in this dynamic production originated by Know My Mind. They are a voluntary organisation which evolved from a Carers group based in Croydon. This emotive piece of therapeutic drama explores the issues surrounding the Mental Health system in Britain today, told through the eyes of a young black man. Using lyrical rap, poetry, dance and music this multi-sensory experience will take you from the streets of London to the secure unit of a psychiatric hospital. So be prepared to be mesmerized!
Director, Ekanem Hines brings out the passion and pain of addressing mental health challenges as well as the battle to deal with stigma and discrimination.
The performance will be followed by a question and answer panel session to explore the issues arising out of the play and highlight constructive ways of moving forward for change. A report has also been written which documents the experiences of some service users and carers in relation to their contact with the relevant support and care services and their struggles of dealing with mental health challenges.
